When building or repairing a vehicle, it is easy to focus on the big parts like engines and wheels. But the small fasteners-the nuts, bolts, and spacers-are what hold everything together safely. Using the wrong ones can be a dangerous mistake.

Not all nuts and bolts are the same. They are made from different materials and have different strength ratings, called "grades." A low-grade bolt used in a critical suspension component can stretch or snap under stress. This can lead to a part falling off your vehicle. High-quality fasteners are made from hardened steel and are marked with their strength grade. Always use the grade specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

Spacers are another important component. A wheel spacer is placed between the wheel and the vehicle's hub. It pushes the wheel outwards. People use them for better looks or to fit larger tires. However, using a cheap, low-quality spacer is very risky. It adds extra stress to the wheel bearings and lug nuts. If a spacer breaks, the wheel can come loose.

Hub-centric spacers are the safe choice. They are designed to fit perfectly over the vehicle's hub, centering the wheel precisely. Lug-centric spacers rely only on the lug nuts to center the wheel, which is less accurate and can cause vibration. Always choose hub-centric spacers for a smooth and safe ride.

Installation is just as important. Always tighten lug nuts and bolts with a torque wrench to the manufacturer's specified setting. Overtightening can stretch the studs and cause them to break. Undertightening can allow the wheel to come loose. It is a simple step that ensures safety.
