Auto Repair Shop Essentials: Quickly Identify and Replace Damaged Valve Stems

Leave a message

The valve stem (or valve stem) is the "breathing valve" of the tire, and its health is directly related to tire safety. Mastering the skill of quickly identifying and replacing damaged valve stems is essential for every professional auto mechanic. Today, we'll provide a quick, hands-on tutorial.

Step 1: Quickly Identify - Which valve stems need replacement?

Visible Aging and Cracking: Especially for rubber valve stems, carefully inspect the base for fine cracks, hardening, or deformation. Any tiny crack is a potential leak point.

Valve Core Unscrewed or Leaking: If air continues to leak from the stem even after replacing a new valve core, the internal threads of the valve stem may be damaged.

Tilted or Loose: Gently shake the valve stem. If it feels loose in the rim valve hole, it must be replaced immediately.

Age Factor: Typically, rubber valve stems have a lifespan of 3-5 years. If the tire is older than this, regardless of its appearance, customers should be advised to replace it when replacing it.

Step 2: Professional Replacement-How to Do It Quickly?

Tools: New valve stem, valve core, valve core tool, and a crucial little tool-a valve stem puller.

Procedure:

Deflation and Removal: Ensure the tire is completely deflated. Use the valve core tool to unscrew the old valve core.

Tire Removal: Use a tire changer to peel the tire bead away from the rim on one side, exposing the base of the valve stem.

Removal from the Inside: From the inside of the tire, manually or with pliers, push the old valve stem out of the mounting hole.

Installation of the New Part: Insert the new valve stem through the mounting hole from the inside and manually pull it into place from the outside. For TPMS valve stems, use a dedicated nut and torque wrench to tighten to the specified torque to ensure a seal.

Installation of the Valve Core: Install the new valve core and tighten it.

Inflation and Leak Check: After inflation, apply soapy water to the base of the valve stem and the newly installed valve core to check for leaks.

Efficiency Tip: To improve efficiency, we recommend combining common valve stem specifications, valve cores, and pullers into a "Valve Stem Service Kit." Our company offers this one-stop solution, helping you quickly and professionally complete this critical service.
